Microphone G49

Introducing the G49 microphone from Gelding – the perfect blend of vintage style and modern performance. The G49 is designed to replicate the iconic sound of the Neumann M49, with a warm and detailed sound that will bring your recordings to life. But unlike the vintage original, the G49 features higher sensitivity and a lower noise floor, making it easier than ever to capture every detail of your sound.

The G49 microphone is a tube condenser microphone with remote control of directional characteristics. The overall design is based on the original Neumann M49 microphone, but has been modified based on our own experience, a lot of technical measurements, and mainly practical use.

The microphone is particularly suitable for orchestral recording (very popular in the decca tree system) and recording voices. It is also popular for recording acoustic instruments such as double bass, acoustic guitar, violas, etc. It achieves high sensitivity (Omni = 19mV/Pa and Cardioid = 39mV/Pa) and high SNR, making it suitable for recording very dynamic audio material. The resulting sound is quite mix-ready for most sounds and no further work is needed.

Thanks to tube based design, your voice will be on face and slightly compressed and will sit nicely in a mix. It handles equalization very well, treble boosting is very pleasant, and you don’t have to worry about harsh-sounding high-end.
